Lesson Title Lesson 3 – Five Butterflies Fly Away
Standards CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.B.5:

“Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.”

Materials Needed Printable – Five Butterflies

Crayons

Pencil

Popsicle sticks

Scotch tape or glue

Teacher Directions ·       Review numbers 1-5 with students in writing and choral counting

·       Tell students they will be learning about 1-5 and coloring in butterflies

·       Create with the students the butterflies using the popsicle sticks. Glue each butterfly to its stick.

·       Model for students writing the number 1 in the first butterfly

·       Model coloring the first butterfly

·       Ask students to complete the printable for numbers 2-5

·       Monitor students as they continue.

·       Support students as needed.

Guiding Questions “Can you count from 1 to 5?”

“Which number comes first, second, etc.?”

“How many butterflies do you see?”
