Lesson Title Lesson 8 – “How Many Are Left?”
Standards K.OA.A.1 Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds (e.g., claps), acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations.
Materials Needed Printable – How Many Are Left?

Crayons

Scissors

Glue

Pencil

Physical Counters/Objects (If Available)

Teacher Directions ·       Hold up three objects. Say “Three”

·       Take away one of the objects and say “Three minus one equals two.”

·       Review more examples, if needed.

·       Pass out Printable “How Many Are Left?”

·       Model gluing the ‘doors’ onto the printable, so that they cover the stars.

·       Have students continue completing one or two more with you guiding.

·       Ask students to complete the final two problems and check their answers.

Guiding Questions “How do we subtract objects?”

“What is subtraction?”

“What does the minus sign represent?”

“What does the equal sign represent?”
