The Bible Story of Courageous Heroes
The Bible includes many stories of people who showed courage because they trusted God.
One of the best-known stories is the story of David and Goliath. Goliath was a giant Philistine soldier who frightened the army of Israel. David was still a young shepherd, but he believed that God would help him. Instead of trusting in armor or weapons, David trusted the Lord and defeated Goliath with a sling and a stone.
Another courageous hero was Esther. Esther became queen, but later learned that her people were in danger. Even though it was risky to approach the king without being called, Esther chose to act bravely. She used her position to help save her people.
The story of Daniel in the lions’ den also teaches courage. Daniel continued praying to God even when a law was passed against it. Because of his faithfulness, he was thrown into a den of lions. But God protected Daniel and shut the lions’ mouths.
Rahab also showed courage. When Israelite spies came to Jericho, Rahab hid them and helped them escape. She believed that the Lord was the true God and was willing to risk her safety to protect the spies.
The Bible says:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
— Joshua 1:9
These stories help children understand that courage does not mean never feeling afraid. It means trusting God and choosing to do what is right even when something feels difficult or scary.
