The Bible Story of Jesus’ Power Over Death
The Gospels tell several stories that show Jesus’ power over death.
In the town of Nain, Jesus met a funeral procession for the only son of a widow. Jesus had compassion on the mother, touched the bier, and told the young man to get up. Jesus raised the son of the widow in Nain, and the young man sat up and began to speak.
Another miracle happened in the home of Jairus, a synagogue leader. Jairus’ little daughter had died, but Jesus went into the room, took her by the hand, and told her to get up. In the story of the raising of Jairus’ daughter, Jesus brought the child back to life.
The greatest miracle of all is Jesus’ resurrection. After Jesus died on the cross and was placed in the tomb, He rose again on the third day. His resurrection showed His victory over sin and death.
Jesus also raised His friend Lazarus. In the resurrection of Lazarus, Jesus came to the tomb, called Lazarus to come out, and Lazarus came out alive. Before this miracle, Jesus said that He is the resurrection and the life.
The Bible says:
“I am the resurrection and the life.”
— John 11:25
