The Bible Story of Moses
Moses was born in Egypt during a dangerous time for the Israelite people. Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, had ordered that Israelite baby boys should not be allowed to live.
Moses’ mother hid him for three months. When she could no longer keep him hidden, she placed him in a carefully prepared basket and set it among the reeds beside the Nile River.
Moses’ sister watched from nearby. Pharaoh’s daughter found the basket, felt compassion for the baby, and decided to care for him. Moses grew up in Pharaoh’s household.
Many years later, Moses left Egypt and became a shepherd.
One day, while Moses was caring for sheep, he saw a bush that was burning but was not consumed by the fire. God spoke to Moses from the bush and told him to return to Egypt.
God said:
“Certainly I will be with you.”
— Exodus 3:12
God told Moses to lead the Israelites out of slavery. Moses felt unsure and asked how he could complete such a difficult task, but God promised that Moses would not face it alone.
Moses returned to Egypt and spoke to Pharaoh. Pharaoh repeatedly refused to let the Israelites leave. After a series of plagues, Pharaoh finally allowed them to go.
The Israelites left Egypt, but Pharaoh soon sent his army after them. The people became frightened when they reached the Red Sea and saw the Egyptian army approaching.
God told Moses to raise his staff. The sea divided, and the Israelites walked through on dry ground.
Moses later led the people through the wilderness. At Mount Sinai, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments—important instructions that taught the people how to honor God and treat one another.
Moses’ story shows children that courage does not mean never feeling afraid or uncertain. Moses often had questions, but he continued taking the next step because God had promised to be with him.
Baby Moses in the Basket Craft
The Baby Moses in the Basket Craft introduces children to the beginning of Moses’ story.
Children can color and assemble the basket while learning how Moses’ mother tried to protect him. The completed craft creates a simple scene of Baby Moses floating safely among the reeds.
The basket, baby, water, and reeds make the story easy to understand and remember.
Best for: Preschool, kindergarten, and early elementary
Lesson theme: Courage, love, and protection
Bible passage: Exodus 1:22–2:10
Discussion question: Why did Moses’ mother place him in a basket?
Moses and the Burning Bush Craft
The Moses and the Burning Bush Craft focuses on the moment God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.
The printable scene includes Moses, his staff, the sheep, and the burning bush. Children can color and assemble the pieces while reviewing what Moses saw and what God asked him to do.
This craft also connects directly to the free coloring page and the words God spoke to Moses:

Moses Parts the Red Sea Craft
The Moses Parts the Red Sea Craft recreates one of the most dramatic moments in the story of the Exodus.
Children can color and assemble the waves so that Moses appears between the divided waters. The three-dimensional design helps children visualize how the Israelites crossed the sea on dry ground.
This craft works particularly well after telling the story because children can use the finished scene to retell what happened.
Best for: Kindergarten and early elementary
Lesson theme: Trusting God when there seems to be no way forward
Bible passage: Exodus 14:10–31
Discussion question: How do you think the Israelites felt when they saw a path through the sea?
Moses and the Ten Commandments Craft
The Moses and the Ten Commandments Craft introduces children to the instructions God gave the Israelites at Mount Sinai.
The pop-up design shows Moses holding the stone tablets on the mountain. Children can color, cut, fold, and assemble the scene with help as needed.
For younger children, there is no need to explain every commandment in detail. Focus on the simple idea that God gave the people instructions for loving God, living honestly, and treating others well.
Best for: Kindergarten and elementary children
Lesson theme: God gives His people instructions
Bible passage: Exodus 19–20
