The Book of Judges tells the story of a difficult time in Israel’s history. Again and again, the people turned away from God, got into trouble, cried out to Him, and God raised up judges to rescue them. These judges were not courtroom judges. They were leaders chosen by God to help, guide, and deliver Israel.
This collection includes four printable Bible crafts based on well-known judges from the Book of Judges: Ehud, Deborah, Gideon, and Samson. These activities are great for Sunday School, children’s church, homeschool Bible lessons, and family Bible time.

The Bible Story of the Judges of Israel
After Joshua died, the Israelites were living in the Promised Land, but they did not always obey God. The Book of Judges explains that the people often turned away from the Lord and worshiped false gods.
Because of this, Israel fell into trouble. Enemies came against them, and the people suffered greatly. When they cried out to God for help, He answered them.
The Bible says:
“Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders.”
— Judges 2:16
These judges were leaders raised up by God to rescue His people and turn them back to Him.
One of these judges was Ehud. Israel was being ruled by King Eglon of Moab. God used Ehud to deliver His people from their enemy.
Another judge was Deborah, a wise prophetess who helped lead Israel. She told Barak that God would give Israel victory over Sisera and his army.
Later, God chose Gideon to rescue Israel from the Midianites. Gideon began with a large army, but God reduced the number of soldiers so that Israel would know the victory came from Him. Gideon’s men used trumpets, jars, and torches, and God gave them victory.
Another well-known judge was Samson. God gave Samson great strength. Although Samson made many wrong choices, God still used him to fight against the Philistines. In the end, God gave Samson strength one last time to bring down the temple pillars.
The stories of the judges remind children that God is patient, powerful, and merciful. Even when His people failed, He continued to hear their cries and raise up leaders to help them.
Ehud Craft
The Ehud Craft introduces children to one of the first judges in the Book of Judges.
Children can color and assemble the scene showing Ehud standing before King Eglon. This craft can be used to explain that Israel had fallen under the control of Moab, and God raised up Ehud to deliver them.
Because the full story includes violent details, it is best to keep the explanation simple for younger children. The main idea is that God used Ehud to rescue His people from an enemy ruler.
This activity gives teachers a way to introduce children to the repeated pattern in Judges: the people sinned, they suffered, they cried out to God, and God sent help.
Best for: Kindergarten and elementary children
Lesson theme: God raises up leaders to rescue His people
Bible passage: Judges 3:12–30
Discussion question: What did God do when His people cried out for help?
Deborah the Prophetess Craft
The Deborah the Prophetess Craft teaches children about one of the most important women in the Old Testament.
Children can color and assemble the standing scene showing Deborah as a leader in Israel. This activity helps children remember that Deborah was both a judge and a prophetess.
Deborah told Barak that God would be with Israel in battle and give them victory over Sisera. Her story shows courage, wisdom, and trust in God.
This is a valuable craft for teaching that God can use women as well as men in important ways. Deborah listened to God and faithfully guided His people during a difficult time.
Best for: Preschool, kindergarten, and elementary children
Lesson theme: Listening to God and leading with courage
Bible passage: Judges 4:4–10
Discussion question: What made Deborah a strong and faithful leader?
Gideon Craft
The Gideon Craft focuses on the moment Gideon and his small army trusted God for victory.
Children can color the scene showing Gideon holding a torch and jar. The craft helps them remember that God told Gideon exactly what to do, even though the plan may have seemed unusual.
Gideon started with a very large army, but God reduced it to only a small number of men so that everyone would know the victory came from Him and not from human strength.
The story reminds children that God does not need large numbers or impressive resources to accomplish His purposes. He wants His people to trust Him.
Best for: Preschool, kindergarten, and elementary children
Lesson theme: Trusting God even when we feel small or weak
Bible passage: Judges 7:1–22
Discussion question: Why did God make Gideon’s army smaller before the battle?
Samson Craft
The Samson Craft tells the story of one of the strongest and most famous judges in Israel.
Children can color and assemble the movable scene showing Samson pushing against the two pillars. The craft provides a simple visual for the final part of Samson’s story.
Samson was set apart by God and given great strength, but he often made poor choices. Even so, God still used him to fight against the Philistines.
With younger children, it is best to focus on the truth that God gave Samson strength and used him as a judge in Israel. With older children, you can also discuss how Samson’s life shows that strength alone is not enough if we do not follow God faithfully.
Best for: Kindergarten and elementary children
Lesson theme: God is the source of our strength
Bible passage: Judges 13:24–25; 16:23–30
Discussion question: What do we learn from Samson’s life about strength and obedience?
