The Bible Story of Mary, Mother of Jesus
Mary was a young woman from Nazareth. She was engaged to Joseph, a man from the family line of King David.
One day, God sent the angel Gabriel to visit Mary. The angel told her not to be afraid. Gabriel said that Mary had found favor with God and that she would have a baby. This child would be called Jesus, the Son of God.
Mary did not understand how this could happen, but the angel explained that the Holy Spirit would come upon her. Mary listened to the message and responded with faith.
She said:
“I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.”
— Luke 1:38
Mary trusted God even though she did not know everything that would happen next.
Later, Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem because Caesar Augustus had ordered a census. Joseph belonged to the family of David, so he went to Bethlehem with Mary.
While they were there, the time came for Mary’s baby to be born. She gave birth to Jesus, wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger because there was no guest room available for them.
Angels announced the birth of Jesus to shepherds nearby, and the shepherds hurried to see the baby. Mary listened to all that had happened and treasured these things in her heart.
When Jesus was still a baby, Mary and Joseph took Him to the temple in Jerusalem. There, a righteous man named Simeon saw Jesus and praised God. Simeon had been waiting for the promised Savior, and he recognized that Jesus was the one God had sent.
Mary’s story reminds children that God’s plans can be surprising, but we can trust Him. Mary did not have every answer, but she listened, believed, and obeyed.
The Angel Visits Mary Craft
The Angel Visits Mary Craft tells the story of the angel Gabriel coming to Mary with an important message from God.
Children can color and assemble the scene showing Mary kneeling as the angel speaks to her. This craft helps children visualize the moment Mary learned that she would be the mother of Jesus.
Mary’s response is an important part of the story. She was surprised and probably afraid, but she chose to trust God’s word.
This activity is a great way to talk with children about listening to God, trusting Him, and responding with faith even when we do not fully understand His plan.

Mary and Joseph Travel to Bethlehem Craft
The Mary and Joseph Travel to Bethlehem Craft focuses on the journey Mary and Joseph made before Jesus was born.
Children can color and assemble the scene showing Mary and Joseph traveling toward Bethlehem. The movable design helps children retell the journey and remember why they went to Bethlehem.
Mary and Joseph traveled because of the census ordered by Caesar Augustus. Even though this was a difficult journey, it was part of the larger story of Jesus’ birth.
