The Bible Story of Creation
The Bible begins with God creating the heavens and the earth.
At first, the earth was empty and dark. God brought light, order, life, and beauty into the world. He created the sky, land, plants, sun, moon, stars, animals, and people.
When God looked at everything He had made, He saw that it was very good.
The Seven Days of Creation
On the first day, God created light and separated the light from the darkness.
On the second day, God created the sky.
On the third day, God gathered the waters together so that dry land appeared. He also caused plants and trees to grow.
On the fourth day, God created the sun, moon, and stars.
On the fifth day, God created the creatures that live in the sea and the birds that fly in the sky.
On the sixth day, God created the animals that live on the land. He also created human beings in His image.
On the seventh day, God rested from His work. He blessed the seventh day and made it special.
God Creates Adam and Eve
God formed the first man, Adam, from the dust of the ground and breathed life into him.
God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden. The garden contained beautiful trees, plants, and food. Adam was given the responsibility of caring for the garden.
God brought the animals to Adam, and Adam gave them names. But none of the animals was a suitable companion for him.
God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and created a woman. Adam called her Eve.
Adam and Eve lived together in the garden and cared for the world God had made.
Adam and Eve and the Tree of Knowledge
God told Adam that he could eat fruit from the trees in the garden, except for the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
A serpent came to Eve and questioned what God had said. Eve took fruit from the tree and ate it. She also gave some to Adam, and he ate it.
Afterward, Adam and Eve realized they had disobeyed God. They became ashamed and tried to hide.
Their disobedience changed their life in the garden and their relationship with God. Adam and Eve had to leave Eden, but their story became the beginning of the larger biblical story of God and humanity.
The Creation story helps children understand that the world belongs to God, people are a special part of His creation, and our choices have consequences.
Creation Story Foldable Mini Book Craft
The Creation Story Foldable Mini Book Craft introduces children to the complete Creation story in a simple booklet format.
Children can color the illustrations, assemble the pages, and use the finished booklet to follow the story from the creation of light to the creation of people.
The small-book format is particularly useful for retelling. Children can turn through the pages in order and explain what God created during each part of the story.
Unlike the sequencing activity below, this craft presents the Creation account as an illustrated storybook that children can read, carry, and take home.
Best for: Preschool, kindergarten, and early elementary
Activity type: Foldable illustrated storybook
Lesson theme: God created the world
Bible passage: Genesis 1:1–2:3
Discussion question: What are some of the things God created?
Seven Days of Creation Sequencing Circles Craft
The Seven Days of Creation Sequencing Circles Craft focuses specifically on the order of Creation.
Children color and cut out the illustrated circles, then arrange and glue them according to the days described in Genesis.
Each circle represents a different part of Creation, including light and darkness, the sky and water, plants, the sun and moon, animals, and people.
This is the most structured learning activity in the collection. Rather than retelling the story through book pages, children must identify each picture and place the days in the correct sequence.
It works especially well after reading Genesis 1 or as a review activity at the end of a Creation lesson.
Best for: Kindergarten and elementary children
Activity type: Cut-and-paste sequencing activity
Lesson theme: The order of the seven days of Creation
Bible passage: Genesis 1:1–2:3
Discussion question: What did God create before He created animals and people?
Adam and Eve Garden Scene Craft
The Adam and Eve Garden Scene Craft moves the lesson from the seven days of Creation to the first people.
Children can color and assemble an illustrated scene showing Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, surrounded by the plants and animals God created.
The completed picture helps children visualize the beauty of the garden and understand that God gave Adam and Eve a place to live and care for.
This activity is different from the two Creation crafts above because it concentrates on a single scene rather than the complete sequence of Creation.
Teachers can use it to introduce the ideas that people were created by God, people are part of His creation, and Adam and Eve were given responsibility for the garden.
Best for: Preschool, kindergarten, and early elementary
Activity type: Illustrated Garden of Eden scene
Lesson theme: God created people and gave them a world to care for
Bible passage: Genesis 2:4–25
Discussion question: What responsibility did God give Adam in the garden?
Adam and Eve and the Tree of Knowledge Mini Book
The Adam and Eve and the Tree of Knowledge Mini Book focuses on the command God gave Adam and Eve and what happened when they disobeyed.
Children can color and assemble the illustrated pages while following the story of the tree, the serpent, Adam and Eve’s choice, and their departure from the Garden of Eden.
Although this is also a booklet, it is clearly different from the first activity. The Creation Story Mini Book covers the making of the world, while this mini book concentrates specifically on Adam and Eve’s decision in the garden.
For younger children, the lesson can remain simple: God gave Adam and Eve a clear instruction, but they chose not to obey it.
The activity provides an age-appropriate opportunity to discuss listening, trust, temptation, responsibility, and the consequences of our choices.
Best for: Kindergarten and elementary children
Activity type: Illustrated Adam and Eve story booklet
Lesson theme: Obedience, trust, and consequences
Bible passage: Genesis 2:15–17 and Genesis 3:1–24
Discussion question: What instruction did God give Adam and Eve?
Free “God Saw All That He Had Made” Coloring Page
The free Creation coloring page features the words:
God Saw All That He Had Made, and It Was Very Good.
Genesis 1:31
The large outlined letters include different patterns and provide plenty of space for children to color.
The illustrations surrounding the verse represent different parts of God’s creation, including the earth, sun, moon, stars, plants, and animals.
The verse comes from the end of the sixth day, after God had created the world and human beings. It gives children a simple central message to remember: God looked at His creation and declared it very good.
This coloring page works well as:
- An opening activity while children arrive
- A quiet activity during the Bible story
- An option for younger children
